We live in a world of Too Much Information. Instant fact retrival. The ability to preview not only your prospective date or friend via MySpace, but their friends, and their friends. Insta-reviews of concert tours and movies, so there's no surprises when YOU get to the theatre. Blogging about events as they are happening... why bother to experience for yourself?
It seems as though your friend provides you with a much welcomed break: the opportunity to delight in the unique unknown, a chance for measured risk-taking... a slice of life that only a few can partake in, offered in the spirit of kindness. Unpredictability in small doses, cloaked in the happiness-generating familiarity and joy of desserts, sounds like a blessing (in disguise, of course, as an ill-frosted cake attempt.)
Umm... I was never goth. Never thought I'd have to clear that up. (Funny thing... at Fordham, it used to be one of my "Two Truths and a Lie" lie. You would not BELIEVE how many people I had convinced.)
Leslie... perfectly said.
And Owen... miss.
Anthony-- I love that that was one of your two truths and a lie. (For some reason this is funnier to me because I never met you.)
Three things:
1. Leslie, I love that my "cooking" is one of the last great adventures in life-- I feel like a wonder of the world!!! :)
2. Claire, I promise: Anthony as goth is funnier still if you know him. He is a PHYSICIST! He has a pocket protector (which he is quick to point out that he doesn't wear, only keeps in his desk drawer so the ink doesn't spill all over and-- god forbid-- stain his ink blotter!)! He loves Star Trek! Anthony as goth is DAMN funny!
