Honestly, a disease whose diagnosis depends on fatigue, achiness and sensitivity to touch does sort of piss me off. No offense to any of those who actually have fibromyalgia. I'm sure it's terrible. My point (as if I ever have one) is to express annoyance regarding those who consider all minor aches and pains part of their deteriorating fibromyalgic condition. I know a few hypochondriacs who I'm sure are coming down with this as we speak. "Oh my God! I have that!"

I hope that no one googling "fibromyalgia" ends up on your site-- how terrible for those misunderstood, suffering souls! Actually, scratch that: I hope they *do* find your site and report you to the Fibromyalgia Association of America!! Can you imagine?!! You are going to have a lot of elderly people in pain searching out Bloomington for your judgmental carcus-- take shelter, friend!
As far as your hypochondriac jab- which I assume is directed toward me- I have bad news to report: hypochondria doesn't stave off illness, as I once believed it did. In fact, protection from sickness was the reason I became a hypochondriac in the first place... doesn't it make sense?!! By definition, I couldn't get sick!!! Brilliant!
...except that at the same time I was a "hypochondriac", I seem to have developed lactose intolerance and scolosis (that's on top of the bird flu and boat of polio I survived!!). So, really, there is nothing that will save our mortal carcuses; we are all going to suffer...which is why, Anthony, you shouldn't malign the fibro-inflicted. Invariably, a debilitating disease is going to some day sideline you, too.

I love how you can get pissed off at a disease. How DARE that disease be diagnosable through vaugue fatigue/discomfort symptoms.
Of course, if I have a cold or virus in any way, I make sure to complain about it to everyone I know. I think it's a survival mechanism of some sort.
Bertie--I know, man. Too bad there's more than one seat on this plane for diseases. I'd love it if having something unnerving but pain-free like hypochondria somehow kept me from getting anything else.
Although hard to download, I found you tube very rewarding for those trying to understand what Fibromyalgia really is and how it affects others.
First, I guess I am one of those old ladies you speak of. I started FMS at 31 after a hysterectomy. None of us ever want to see another person suffer. If anything we can do to help another person aids in their discovery of a true diagnosis and help, we desire to do so.
I pray you don't have Fibromyalgia.

Recently, MRI has shown reseachers that specific blood vescles in the brain are not functioning correctly. I can prove these are genetic and inherited. Additionally, the thyroid does not function properly or is the wrong size. Some doctors are successfully teating the problem with various thyroid treatments most doctors don't use.
I am sorry you feel badly about "old ladies" that want to help you. If you do have Fibromyalgia, you will spend thousands of dollars getting diagnosed and more trying to find a treatment.
An "old lady" just might tell you what works.
